Mavs news on Mark Cuban seeing no problem with increasing player empowerment in the NBA

Mavericks news: The NBA has always been one of the most popular sports leagues in the United States.. However, its popularity has surged over the past couple of years, especially when its players started voicing out their opinions regarding the biggest social issues in the country. The league office has allowed them to make their stand on pressing matters, especially on social media. And Dallas Mavericks team owner Mark Cuban is in favor of what’s happening.

Cuban said that there’s no problem with the NBA empowering its players to be outspoken because the league benefits from it, per Michael Kaskey-Blomain of CBS Sports.

“Unlike every other professional sports league, we’re a talent-driven league. We get the benefits of that. Our guys have the biggest social media following, our guys have the biggest social impact when there’s issues around the country, around the world. Guys have made the effort to develop those followings, and to build themselves as brands, and the NBA is the only professional sport that has really benefited from that, and the trade-off from that is the talent has more power, and in reality that’s just real world … I don’t have a problem with it.”

Cuban, who has been a very outspoken sports figure himself, understands that players aren’t just limited to showcasing their talents on the court. At the end of the day, they are also humans who are impacted by the issues surrounding the United States. And he believes that allowing these players to air their sentiments on social and political problems has helped the NBA, especially in terms of viewership.

“The best way to judge that is from our ticket sales. Last year, there were two teams that never played to an empty seat: whatever team LeBron [James] was on or playing, and the Warriors don’t play to an empty seat anywhere in the league.”

Of course, NBA superstars LeBron James and Stephen Curry are two of the most influential players in the league. Whenever they say take to social media to talk about a political or social matter, it impacts their colleagues and the fans.

And with the internet and social networking sites becoming an important part of everybody’s lives, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more NBA stars follow LeBron and Steph’s footsteps in the future.
